A Heritage Worth Honoring

The legacy my paternal grandfather left us is a profound grit to start over when things went bad. The photo above is the view the Campbell’s of Lechmelm, Scotland enjoyed for centuries. The Campbell’s were Crofters – farmers- who leased the land from a benign English landowner. Then one day in 1879 the new land owner let the Crofters know they could no longer farm the land. They were being evicted. They had a choice: live in the owners mansion as servants, or accept passage to America to start a new life. Thank God they chose the latter.
After arriving in Canada Alexander Campbell, his wife and two young daughters became Homesteaders – true pioneers – in Western Canada. We take pride in our heritage and our grandfathers courage, determination and true grit to make a better life for countless generations of Campbell’s.
